This month I have taken a variety of photos, mostly of birds, but one particular session stood out for me. After an early start I was treated to some wonderful morning light and I was able to use it to my advantage. If you follow me on social media you will have seen a similar shot of a Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) which I shared from the same day. I love that one but this one is just a little more special for me.

This is a Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus) and at the time I took this image, I completely empathised with it - I was cold and tired too! There were a lot of different water birds around and so the challenge was to single out individuals and get the light working in my favour so that there was enough on the bird. It was tricky but I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome.

I would normally be hoping for some cold, frosty weather at this time of year but as that hasn't materialised yet I have been pleased to have a challenge to find some different and interesting subjects to photograph instead.
